When is the best time to book a hotel room in London?

Staying at a nice hotel doesn’t have to break the bank, London can be very expensive but there are ways to keep the budget in check.

  1. Look into business hotels.

Many city hotels mainly cater to businesses and often market can be slow during summer months and on weekends which can lead to lower prices.

  1. Book in Advance

You can expect saving of at least 20% when you book 3-5 months in advance, most of the London hotels use revenue management techniques which tend to increase prices closer to the stay date.

  1. Stay on alternative days

Sundays and Mondays tend to have the lowest rates, when booking a city break, consider booking Sunday stay instead of Saturday, you can save up to 50% on the rate. Also avoid staying in the middle of the week from Tuesday to Thursday.

  1. Book a prepaid rate

Hotels appreciate prepaid rates as it’s a safe revenue for them, they offer on average 10-15% discount on these non-refundable rates.

  1. Stay during low seasons

Low seasons in London are many but they are very short, rates might jump from £100 to £300 within a day, finding the best days can be difficult.

Some of the longer low seasons are:

  • January – entire month
  • February – first two weeks
  • August – entire month
  • December – last two weeks

We published our low season’s exact days for 2019 here.

Always consider contacting hotel directly to ask them for a better price, hotel can’t offer better rates online than travel agents due to a legal agreement called “rate parity”, but you can always contact hotel directly and request a discount. Hotels don’t have to pay a commission to a travel agent and are often eager to provide a discounted rate.
