SUSTAINABILITY AT THEWESLEY 2022!

17/01/2022

As the only hotel in London to earn the Social Enterprise Mark Award, our hotel maintains an abiding commitment to sustainability. Furthermore, at The Wesley, “green” is not just a buzzword; it’s a way of life for us. Our innovative eco-friendly programs and initiatives are designed to protect our surroundings. In addition, minimise our carbon footprint. Equally, we believe that business ethics are moral judgments about what is right and what is wrong. Furthermore, these decisions are typically made on more personal levels. Correspondingly our entire hotel enterprise’s culture is influenced and equally guided by this way of thinking.

Our Commitment to Sustainability?

Sustainability

  • We handpick our suppliers that are accredited by Fair Trade.
  • We are registered to the City of London Climate Pledge and the Camden Climate Change Alliance.
  • Our bedrooms have reducers installed in the toilet flush, and we invested in water-efficient kitchen appliances.
  • Our food is locally sourced from farms outside London, and we only use ingredients from sustainable suppliers.
  • TheWesley maintains several waste segregations programs to ensure we are maximising waste reduction in all manner of operations.
  • In addition for the past five years, all food waste at our hotel has been fully recycled, resulting in a 100% reduction in landfill usage.

Our Recognitions

Sustainability

  • We hold Gold level recognition by Investors in People.
  • TheWesley was first awarded a Social Enterprise Mark in 2012. The Social Enterprise Mark recognises an organisation that earmarks a portion of its profits towards beneficial social and environmental programs.
  • We have a Green Tourism award! Green Tourism offers credible, trustworthy, and independent guidance to tourism businesses wishing to operate sustainably.

In addition here are some small changes you can make that will lead to big changes in the environment!

Drink from cafes that use biodegradable cups

(Such as vegware cups) – Biodegradable cups are lined with plant-based PLA, not plastic.

Composting

At TheWesley, we are big on composting. Composting is nature’s very own way of recycling. In addition, items can go into your compost heap such as fruits, vegetable peelings, cereals. Companies can look at composing similarly to homes, using waste from the kitchen and garden to create nutrients that will help plants and flowers grow.

Switch to eco-friendly catering disposables

Cutting out the use and waste of plastic is one way to reduce your hotel’s negative impact on the environment. A staggering 8 tons of plastic end up in the world’s oceans every year. Furthermore, it’s important that we collectively do our part to reduce the use of plastic. Additionally, we use Vegware, which manufactures an extensive range of plant-based catering disposables. Which are commercially compostable with food waste, where accepted.

Offer guests the option to re-use linen and towels

Guests don’t always need to change their bedroom linen and towels daily. In addition more and more people strive to live an eco-friendlier lifestyle. Nevertheless, guests will be more than happy to make small changes and do their part in reducing. Lastly the need to use water, washing machines, and dryers. So why not encourage them to reuse?

Get the message out there

Additionally, sustainability matters so share this blog! Our hotel is dedicated to reducing waste; therefore, we only use compostable disposables.
